New Mapquest driving directions and route planner: Simply amazing!

Posted on July 6th, 2010 by by admin

A few days have gone by since the new and improved Mapquest.com was launched. The day of the release of their new product I was so excited about the new interface that I just felt like I needed to talk about it, I mean this new very improved interface offers so much cool new features and new tools that I felt like I just had to come to this website to tell everyone that loves maps and directions about it. I made a big mistake though, why? Because I did not have the chance to explore and test the new mapping software to the fullest, that day I just scanned the new site from top to bottom, I looked around for new icons, and I basically looked around for very obvious changes that could easily be identified. Although there were lots of obvious changes in things like the look, logo, icons, and tools, the real significant changes can be spotted once you use the new software and discover the real functionality of this marvellous technological advance, especially if you have used mapquest all your life, or if you have used it at least once before.

Mapquest driving directions and the mapquest route planner are so much better now that it is simply amazing! Now I have properly used this new online mapping software and I have to be honest about this, I don’t think i’ll be testing new web based mapping applications for while, i’m just too satisfied with mapquest.com right now. You know that the purpose of this website is to search for new online mapping softwares and test them, softwares that hand out driving directions and provide understandable easy to follow routes through high quality maps, softwares that have useful tools and useful information to make your daily chores a lot easier, well I think I have found all of these things in Mapquest and Google Maps so I think I don’t have to look any further, mission accomplished!

When you are searching for mapquest driving directions all you have to do is go to mapquest.com, there is a single search box where you can search for anything, driving directions, you can map locations, find hotels, you can virtually find any POI that you might be interested in finding. All the tools and features are still there, there are some new tools too! the cool thing is that you are probably thinking, how can mapquest handle even more tools than they had before? Some people might think that maybe the interface can get messy with so many tools and icons, but that it’s not the case at all, it is now easier to use, people can be more instinctive with this software so new users will know how to use it just by looking at it, it looks cleaner, and it even has a more professional look.

Getting mapquest driving directions it’s a lot easier now, once you get to the site you will see below the single search box a blue link with a plus sign that says “get directions”, you click on it once and another search box will be added so now you can input addresses in A and B to create routes, if you want you can add more stops by clicking on the same link that said “get directions” that now says “add another stop”, it is really simple. The cool thing is that once you get directions, the routes are displayed on the map at the right, on top of the map there are some icons for things like restaurants, gas stations, hotels, motels, atm’s, coffee shops, golf courses, hampton inn’s, holiday inn’s, parks, movie theaters, parking garages, bars, shopping malls, and live traffic, all you have to do is click on any of these things and they will be displayed where they are located if they are located along your route. When you click on get directions the estimated time between points will be calculated, you will see how much will it take to get to certain place in time units and you will also know how many miles or kilometers will it take for you to get there. You can save routes, maps, and driving directions to my maps very easily all you have to do is click on the red pin that says save to my maps. When creating routes you can choose to avoid highways, seasonal roads, tolls, ferries, country borders, and timed restrictions. You can also click on 360 view for street level imagery. Satellite and map views are also available.

A very important improvement in the new mapquest driving directions service is that you can drag and drog points to instantly change and create new routes, this was one feature that Google maps had that mapquest did not, so now mapquest is more complete than it was before, it is more accurate, the quality of the maps has improved, the routes are better, it has more tools, more features, and I can’t see any other web based mapping application getting near them in terms of quality, except for Google Maps that is, but the rest online mapping softwares are just falling way behind in this competition where Google and Mapquest will prevail simply because they are the ones trying to be the best, others are just trying improve and have the service included in the list of services that they offer just to say that they have it, but these two companies are just trying to “out do” each other to be the best and this is taking each their softwares and services to new heights. As users we will just have to sit, watch, and enjoy all of these free great tools that are at our disposal. Enjoy!

The New Mapquest.com

Early today I woke up as usual, grabbed a cup of coffee, turned on my computer, and logged in to mapquest to get my routes for the day, a few seconds after just when I was about to start using the route planner a message appeared at the top of the screen, a message asking me if I wanted to use the new version of mapquest, so I clicked on the link and went on to use the new interface.

This new version of mapquest has gone through a lot of changes, the logo is different, the look is different, I mean it has really changed, it looks similar to other web based mapping softwares at a first glance, once you take a really good look at it you can see features that no one else has. Google maps, and mapquest had some similarity in the past, now it looks more like Map24 but it’s still very unique and original.

Although it may have some similarities with other online mapping softwares at a first glance, it is very different, mapquest has always been known for having lots of features and tools, this new version has just that, more features, and more tools. It is very fun, it’s even easier to use, and the quality has increased.

Mapquest driving directions have been known to be the best free driving directions available on the web, the routes that they provide are considered the best as well by many critics. The new mapquest is not just about driving directions, it has a lot more to offer right now, the new mapquest has focused mainly on a an expanded range of capabilities and local search, at the same time they have mantained and even strengthened the quality and exactitude of their driving directions and route planning feature.

According to mapquest the new features include:

- Enhanced my maps integrated with AOL, OpenID, facebook, twitter, etc, to simplify the login process.
- Personalized travel with notes, land marks, short cuts,
- Integration of Patch’s directory to the search results.
- Simple saving and customization of information, save at my maps your trip itineraries and share them through social media sites very easily.

One of the features I have really enjoyed from this new mapquest is one that gives you the chance to make multiple searches within a map and the software will show all the results layered with different colors at the same time, Google maps, bing, nor Yahoo have included this feature so I think this will help mapquest gain even a little bit more popularity over their competitors.

Mapquest driving directions and mapquest search has now been simplified, the maps look better, the routes are better, the tools are now even easier to use, the overall quality of the site is better, the search results are now more complete, everything has improved, even their mobile apps are going through some changes right now. Mapquest is delivering a lot right now, so go give it a try and check it out for yourself, if you liked mapquest in the past then you will love the new mapquest.

Mapquest Driving Directions in Spanish

Posted on June 25th, 2010 by by admin

Just in case you didn’t know and just in case you are Spanish, Latin, or from any other place where spanish is the spoken native language then I got good news for you, there is a MapQuest version made for Spain or for users all around the world who speak spanish better than any other language, Mapquest.es is a web based application almost identical to the one offered by Mapquest UK, the only difference is that everything is written down in Spanish.

If you are searching for mapquest driving directions in spanish then that’s the place where you want to go, it is very simple and easy to use, it has all the tools and features that mapquest.com has, the interface is a little bit different, but it is so simple and well layed out that you can use it intuitively, even if you have never used MapQuest before in your life doesn’t matter, you won’t have a problem using it for the first time because you will know exactly what to do to get maps and directions.

To go to Mapquest in spanish all you have to do is go to http://www.mapquest.es, once you are there you can have easy and fast access to all of their maps, driving directions, routes, and tools. You will see the Mapquest logo at the uper left part of the web page, to the right you will see two tabs one says “Mapas” which means Maps in spanish, and on the second tab you will see the word “Indicaciones” which means directions, choose the one you want, I’m guessin you clicked on the directions tab, ok after you make your choice scroll down and you will see a couple of drop down menu’s (both of them say “Pais” which means Country) one on the right and the other one to the left, there are other options and tabs (you can figure them out and use them later), we are just sticking to the basics here. On both drop down menu’s you can choose the countries, where you are and where you want to go, then the city, address, and zip code, then click on “obtener indicaciones” this means “get directions” obviously, in a few seconds you will get your routes and directions displayed on a beautiful mapquest map.

If you don’t have all the information, for example if you are lacking information like the address, or the zip codes and stuff like that don’t worry remember that mapquest can handle incomplete information with no problem, you could make a route based simply on two cities or two countries as starting and ending points, for example you can choose Spain as a starting point and England as an ending point, click on get directions, and MapQuest will make a unique route for you to get there with no hassle at all.

Mapquest driving directions in spanish are an example of Mapquest’s constant growth and commitment, they are the number one providers of maps and directions on the web, their plan is to reach the whole wide world by offering their services in many different languages so that they can reach as many people as they can.
